A platform, ten promised posters, a “popular” price … but the LFP plays big. Canal+ absent, the ghosts of Mediapp and Dazn prowl.
The Professional Football League has just announced the creation of a 100 % Ligue 1 TV and digital platform, Orchestrated by LFP Media. Officially, the ambition is clear: to make Ligue 1 accessible to all, to offer an immersive and unifying experience, and to offer on August 17 the ten most beautiful posters in the championship as well as eight games per day, from Friday to Sunday, exclusively. To perfect this cocktail, a big magazine will be broadcast in clear every Sunday evening.
LFP Media: The big leap… to a new fiasco?
But under the advertisement, an observation is essential: the LFP is committed to a dangerous slope. The price, announced at € 14.99 per month with commitment, is “popular” and largely below the prices charged by Dazn last year. However, the fracture with the general public remains. At a time when football consumption continues to fragment and when IPTV explodes, propose a solo offer, without the support of a historical diffuser, seems more than bold.
Because Canal+ has once again declined the invitation to distribute the channel. A camouflet from which the LFP is struggling to get up, as the encrypted chain remains synonymous with prestige and visibility for Ligue 1. by betting on a 100 % house platform, the LFP takes the risk of being isolated, prisoner of a model where the real audience will not necessarily follow the displayed ambition.
The shadow of the IPTV and the spectrum of past fiascos
The bitter memory of Mediapp and Dazn's debacle are not so distant. Admittedly, the announced price seems reasonable, but it does not erase the distrust of supporters or the reality of the parallel market. The more accessible, more flexible IPTV continues to attract a bored audience to juggle between subscriptions.
This bet, presented as a turning point, could well become a crash test for Ligue 1. if he fails, the fracture between the LFP and its audience will be widening, strengthening the impression of a drift league, unable to innovate without burning their wings.
