Despite numerous attempts in the first kilometers, the breakaway took time to train, especially because of the big pace imposed by the peloton from the start. After more than 40 kilometers, Michal Kwiatowski (INEOS Grenadiers) et Archie Ryan (EF Education-Easypost) were finally able to escape, quickly followed by Liam Slock (Lotto) et Michel Hessmann (Movistar Team).
