The possible transfer of the French midfielder to Rennes creates a lively controversy among the supporters of the Breton club.
The arrival of Valentin Rongier at Stade Rennais promises to be particularly tense. Indeed, the French midfielder is about to engage with the Breton club, from Olympique de Marseille.
This summer movement is part of a double operation, also including the departure of Quentin Merlin to the SRFC. The total amount of the transaction is estimated at 20 million euros. However, the recruitment of the Mâconnais arouses strong opposition to part of the Rennes supporters, who were not asked to make it known in a press release.
Anger rumbles in ultras
“It is with a certain stupor that we learned the probable recruitment of Valentin Rongier in the workforce of Stade Rennais”wrote the Roazhon Celtic Kop, the main ultra group of the club, before adding:
“No need to remind red and black supporters the displayed aversion of this player towards our club. Between his childish spikes on social networks and his statements in the media – in which he claimed that he never could sign at Stade Rennais 'because he represents his' enemy 'club' and swore to 'remaining Nantes forever' – Valentin Rongier has, in our eyes, no legitimacy to wear our colors. »»
And to continue: “Beyond the player, it is the management of the club that we point the finger. How not to underline the blatant hypocrisy of those who, a few weeks ago, organized a weekend around 'Red and black identity' … to consider the arrival of a player who embodies the opposite? In terms of identity, consistency and respect for the red and black people, we are waiting for better. This recruitment would be for us an affront if it succeeds and we cannot accept it. »»
