While FC Barcelona tries to strengthen its workforce with one of the revelations of Spanish football, the shadow of the previous administrative throws a veil of uncertainty on the transfer of Nico Williams and FC Barcelona proposed a solution.
The soap opera around the arrival of Nico Williams at FC Barcelona takes an increasingly strategic turn. If the discussions between the player's agent, Félix Tainta, and the Catalan club led to an agreement, the operation remains suspended from an administrative detail: the payment of the liberating clause fixed by the Athletic Bilbao. However, it is not so much the financial aspect that worries the entourage of the young Spanish winger, but the fear of a non-registration in Liga. The recent examples of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, prevented from being recorded in time last season, have made an impression. As a precaution, the Williams clan tried to obtain an unprecedented guarantee, that of becoming a free agent if its registration failed. A proposal that Barça immediately rejected, anxious to keep the control of the operation.
A tailor -made compromise to reassure all parties
Faced with this concern, FC Barcelona had to be flexible. To secure the agreement without compromising its sporting and financial strategy, the club proposed an original outing clause: in the event of administrative blocking, Nico Williams would be authorized to negotiate with other clubs. However, this conditional freedom is not free. The interested club will have to pay the 62 million euros paid by Barça, an amount equivalent to its release clause, increased by the cost of the ICC (cost of the registration premium). This mechanism guarantees both flexibility for the player and economic protection for the Catalan club, which continues to juggle the limits of financial fair play while wishing to offer guarantees to its recruits.
