For the Squiban family, the day had already been very radiant, but chance was invited to come and offer Maëva and his father a few minutes of incredible additional time.
After his victory in the 6e Stage from the Tour de France yesterday July 31 in Ambert, the Finistère had the immense pleasure of falling on her father by chance. The beautiful anecdote is Mickaël, the dad who tells her.

“Last night,” said Mickaël Squiban, I couldn't see her on arrival.
“With François Bramoullé, his first coach, we had chosen to post in Valcivières 12 km from the line. We arrived in the morning, we had appropriated a turn, we had decorated the road, put on the banners. And all the people who arrived after us also put themselves in unison when we knew that she had escaped”.
“When she passed, there was an atmosphere of madness. She saw us, smiled at us, she had 1'20 in advance, there was only the descent, she knew it could do it. After, her final, I looked at her on my phone, and when she lifted her arms on the line, I cried, but I could not take her in my arms.”
But it was said that this day would remain unforgettable. And chance will therefore give a boost. Since after finding their motorhome, Maeva's father and his former coach will offer himself a nice supplement of emotions.
“When we hit the road much later, we got overtaken by a car from UAE, Maëva's team. And understood that she was inside. They stopped, we got out of the motorhome, and we fell in her arms, it was magic … I told her bravo my big one. You did it. We cried both.”
After his victory at the end of the afternoon, Maëva already had not been able to hold back his tears. “What she achieved, still underlines his father, is beautiful “.
“First of all because it is only the second Frenchwoman to win a stage of the Tour after Cédrine Kerbaol last year, and that the two are Brestois. And then Maëva returns from afar. There, we live good times, but sometimes sport is also difficult moments, doubt, anxiety”.
“What she knew in May with her accident when she was overthrown by a car on a roundabout could have stopped her season. There was nothing broken, but when she resumed 15 days after, she had pain, but she is hard. She had to do the French championships, but she absolutely wanted to be there on Brittany, in front of her relatives. In Quimper, she had already been the most combative. And this stage victory is a great reward. “
And Mickaël Squiban will continue to follow his daughter on the Tour.
“I do not know what she can do today on the road to Chambéry, her night had to be short, difficult to sleep after a day like this. But perhaps she will be able to try something by the final arrival in Chatel on Sunday”.
In the general classification, Maëva Squiban is currently 23rd at 8'12 from Kim Le Court, yellow jersey.
