Lyon keeps the door open to Timo Werner, but will only recruit it under very precise conditions before the transfer window.
According to Foot Mercato, the French club closely follows the situation of the German striker at the RB Leipzig and could try to convince him in the last hours of the transfer window if the circumstances require him. The 29 -year -old was offered to the French club earlier this summer as a potential reinforcement for the workforce of Paulo Fonseca.
The RB Leipzig striker under contract until 2026
However, initial discussions were blocked due to the salary requirements of the former Tottenham and Chelsea player, deemed out of the club's reach. Despite this, the Lyon management maintained this pending option while studying other wingers. If these options fail, Werner's name should reappear on the restricted list.

Lyon keeps the Werner option despite high salaries
Werner, linked to Leipzig until 2026, could only leave if the Bundesliga club is afraid of losing it for free next year. Lyon is ready to wait until the last phases of the market to force Leipzig to conclude an agreement. However, the main obstacle remains his salary, estimated at 900,000 euros per month. For a transfer to be possible, the German international should accept a significant drop in salary, potentially divided by three or four, in order to make any transfer possible.
It is important to note that the Lyon wage bill is under strict surveillance, which means that any agreement must be financially viable. Nevertheless, the president of the club, Michele Kang, is aware that despair and opportunities at the end of the transfer window could offer an opportunity to recruit Werner.
The German spent last season on loan in Tottenham by Leipzig. However, he struggled to stand out, registering only one goal in 27 games in all competitions. He was only established four times in the Premier League under the orders of the former Spurs coach, Ange Postcoglou, before returning to Germany.
Since then, the New York Red Bulls have offered to leave Leipzig. The striker has declined the offer, but the MLS team has maintained his proposal until next week.
