Perched on their motorcycle, the cameras of the Tour de France follow more than three hours a day the runners at sometimes scary speeds. Closer to the action to film the champions, these tightrope walkers without a seat belt sometimes leave us breath. For six years, Bart Vansteenbruge has been working on a motorcycle. Is he afraid to fall, especially in the descents? “A little bit, from time to time, yes”he says.
During the 15th stage, Sunday July 20, Tim Wellens won solo. This is the first Belgian runner's victory over the big loop. For Julian Alaphilippe, the day had started badly with a fall. But the Frenchman held out and even invited himself to the outposts. On arrival, he celebrated because he thought he had won. But he finished third. “My radio no longer walked after the fall, so I tried to make the best sprint possible while trying to think about the stage victory. Like an idiot, I raised my hands, but there were guys in front”he says. There are only six stages to the French left to avoid starting from this 112nd edition without victory. It only happened twice in history.
