Posting since November 2010, Rui Jorge could leave the U21 national team in Portugal following the recent elimination at the Euro Espoirs.

We potentially witness one of the longest cycles in category history. At the end of a frustrating euro hopes, the national coach of Portugal U21, Rui Jorge, would be about to fold luggage after more than 14 years in mandate.

A terrible disillusionment for Portugal

A most frustrating elimination. Faced with a team from the Netherlands reduced to ten during a major part of the meeting, following the early expulsion of striker Ruben Van Bommel, Portugal failed to win on Saturday evening, on the occasion of the quarter-finals of the Euro Espoirs. Indeed, despite a constant domination, the men of Rui Jorge came up against a low block particularly difficult to unravel, before exposing themselves at the end of the meeting.

Just entered the Dutch side, Ernest Poku came to create the surprise by taking the best on the Portuguese defense, later eliminating Samu Soares, imperial until then, to score the one and only goal of the match. Powerless in the face of the solid opposing defense, the Portuguese were thus forced to say goodbye to this euro hopes which had however started so well.

End of end for Rui Jorge?

A frustrating defeat, which could have heavy consequences for the current coach. In office for over 14 years, Rui Jorge has left doubt about his future following the meeting. “An end of the cycle?” I don't know. I think my contract ends today ”launched the 52 -year -old technician, whose place could be questioned by the new management of the Portuguese Football Federation.

For the time being, no official decision has been pronounced. However, we can expect the opening of a new chapter within this Espoirs selection, which has struggled to radiate since the arrival of the native of Vila Nova de Gaia. Asked about this at the TV sports microphone, the main interested party said that “We will talk about all this very quickly”.
