Lille defender Gabriel Gudmundsson expressed his desire to join the Premier League, while Leeds United seeks to finalize an agreement.

Gudmundsson seems to be off to reach England via Leeds, Daniel Farke seeking to strengthen his defense before a return to the Premier League. The club will desperately seek to avoid direct demotion to championship and considers that Gudmundsson can be a solid option in the left rear station. Selected 15 times with Sweden and having disputed more than 100 appearances in Ligue 1 with Lille, Gudmundsson is an experienced option and, just one year before the end of his contract, he seems ready to join Leeds at an advantageous price.

Referring to a possible transfer, Gudmundsson told Yorkshire Post: “JI have been in Lille for four years and I have a year of contract, so it is quite reasonable that there is speculation.

“Everything went very well for me, so it's no secret that things can happen this summer. I have the ambition to take a new step, and we will see what will happen. I can only say that (Leeds) is a good team that evolves in the Premier League, a championship and a country where I also have the ambition to play one day, because I grew up looking at this championship. It is a championship that I really appreciate. »»

Gudmundssson proche the geding

The recruitment of a left -wing left side was one of Farke's priorities this summer, following the free departure of Junior Firpo. After a mixed period since his arrival from Barcelona in 2021, the side should find his former club, Real Betis. A departure from Firpo was expected during the relegation of Leeds to the Premier League, but his decision to stay and perform in Championship convinced Leeds supporters. Gudmundsson will now have an important role in playing Elland Road.

Leeds will seek to seal the recruitment of Gudmundsson as soon as possible before turning to other targets. Farke has eyes riveted on Rodrigo Muniz (Fulham) and Josh Sargent (Norwich and USMNT), both considered as necessary improvements compared to existing options Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford.
