The French Table Tennis Federation confirmed to us that it was the victim of a data theft, without giving the number of potential victims.

Bad news for the 254,000 Table Tennis licensees in France: their data may have been compromised following a “massive” cyber attack, as confirmed by the French Table Tennis Federation with Tech & Co.

“Access not authorized by the use of a compromised account has enabled mass recovery of information in our licensee database,” explains the organization.

The authorities seized, a complaint filed

This concerns the name, first name, gender, date and place of birth, as well as all means of contact (email, postal address, telephone number), or the license number.

“The FFTT deeply regrets this situation and wishes to make sure that all of its services are mobilized to manage this intrusion. The federal computer service works in collaboration with its technical providers, to the correction of this security flaw,” adds the federation in a press release.

The people concerned have received an email in recent hours – or are on the way to receive it.

The CNIL, a gendarme of personal data, but also the ANSSI, a national agency dedicated to cybersecurity, have been informed, as provided for in the law, and a complaint has been filed.

The risks of this leak – whose number of victims is not known – are numerous: a phishing campaign can be launched, in particular for a false defect in payment, or for other attacks in order to deceive a user and better extract their bank information. Banking information that was not stolen during the FFTT attack, as is health data.
