The departures of Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez, whose contracts expired last weekend, left two vacant positions within the Real Madrid captains group, and these have now been officially provided.
Modric was the captain of Real Madrid, his departure therefore made this vacant position. Unsurprisingly, Dani Carvajal was chosen to replace him. He was already his deputy in the 2024-25 season, who was interrupted for the defender after he was torn the previous cross ligament in October.

Thibaut Courtois New Captain of Real
It is a moment of pride for Carvajal, whose number two will be Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan midfielder was already part of the group of captains alongside Modric and Lucas, and he now climbed the ladder. According to Diario AS, the two aforementioned players have now been joined by Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Junior.
Courtois, who joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018, will be the third captain, while Vinicius, who joined the club from Flamengo the same summer, will be the fourth. This decision was made by club leaders in collaboration with coach Xabi Alonso, who will count on these four players to be the leaders in the locker room before his first full season on the bench.
The decision concerning Vinicius comes in a context of uncertainty about its future
The appointment of Vinicius, which was somewhat awaited since he has been a player in Real Madrid for seven years, is interesting, because he is currently faced with an uncertain future with Santiago Bernabeu. The contractual negotiations between the player and the club are at a standstill, and Saudi Arabia would plan to break the world record to convince him to leave the blankets.
Despite this, it would be surprising to see Vinicius leave, and he should therefore take his place in the group of captains for the 2025-26 season, which will start next month.
