First day for Ivan Romeo. The Spaniard Ivan Romeo won alone in Charantonnay (Isère), during the third stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné, part of Brioude (Haute-Loire) for 207.2 km, Tuesday June 10. The Movistar runner, in the breakaway of the day marked by attacks in jolts, achieved the perfect race to offer his first victory on the World Tour and his second among professionals. As a bonus, he seizes the yellow jersey. He was ahead of the Colombian line Harold Tejada (+14 '') and the French Louis Barré (+14 ''), who dates back to the general classification in second place.

“I can't believe it, reacted Ivan Romeo on arrival, at the microphone of the organizers. It was one of the hardest days of my career, with the heat, but I felt good, with good legs. I took the risk. With the final flat, when I saw the difference of a minute, I told myself that I had to go. I have this step in my head for a month “, Rejoiced the new yellow jersey, which is more than a minute in advance in the general classification on the Cadors Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease A Bike) and Remco Evenepoel (Sudal Quick-Step).

From the first part of the stage, Ivan Romeo and twelve other runners formed the breakaway. With Harold Tejada (Astana), Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Louis Barré (Intermarché-Wanty) and Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) among others, Ivan Romeo held the cadence despite the hardened look of the peloton under the impulse of the Visma-Lease A Bike, Ineos and Uae Team On their heels.

The intelligent Spanish attack nine kilometers from the finish, in a small relief (1 km at 5%), turned the final tilted. Although the German Florian Lipowitz has taken it in numerous occasions and brought the group back in its wake, Ivan Romeo maintained its advance at the end of an unpredictable and stuck course with five listed ribs (one in 2nd and a 4th category, three in 3rd category).

Florian Lipowitz and the Dutch triple winner of Paris-Roubaix finish them respectively fourth and fifth. Despite an attempt to return to the leading group in the last ten kilometers, Van der Poel was countering, without the possibility of creating the gap. Florian Lipowitz and Harold Tejada, who were the two strongest of the day, held out to grab time to general. The operation turned out to be fruitful for the two runners, now third and fourth in the general classification.
