“Before getting to the heart of the matter, we would like to specify that the ADEE association does not represent us and does not speak in our name. As an adults with achondroplasia, commonly known as Nanism, we have our own voice, our own judgment and the full capacity to decide on our personal and professional life. We are not part of this association; We have not been consulted or asked to give our opinion before wearing public accusations that concern us directly. No one can claim to represent an entire group without having previously listened to the people he claims to defend. The struggle for the dignity and the rights of people with disabilities cannot be made to the detriment of our voice or the making of paternalistic decisions. Building on this clarification, we express our personal position: in the light of the accusations recently carried by the ADEE association concerning an organized private event to celebrate the anniversary of the majority of a renowned athlete, we would like to declare the following: 1. We are people fully able to make independent decisions concerning our life. Each of us makes decisions freely and manages the essential aspects of our daily life and our future. 2. We firmly reject any allegation of ridicule or exploitation, as has been publicly asserted without proof. Those who accuse us without knowing us dehumanized us and deprive us of our autonomy. 3. For legal confidentiality reasons for all the people registered with the event, we cannot comment on the details of the event, but we can and must defend our honor and our professionalism against the public campaigns which question our work and our personal dignity. 4. We urge the ADEE and any other entity to carry out their work in a responsible manner, without generalizing, not to mention in the name of those who have not been heard and without turning into an instrument of discourse unrelated to our lived reality. 5. We reserve the right to initiate legal proceedings if any false information involving our reputation and our public image continue to be disseminated. We want to say it loud and clear: we are deeply honored to have been invited to this event. It was a professional and human experience during which we were treated with respect. The real inclusion means accepting that we also have the right to decide how we want to live, without being judged or exploited. With respect, conviction and head high. »»
