This is the end of a fairly known rule of our French football. In Ligue 1 in particular, a player was automatically suspended from a match if he received 3 yellow cards over a period of 10 games. This rule is now over. In a press release, the LFP announced to develop the rule. Now, a player will be automatically suspended from a match after 5 yellow cards in the season. Exit the period of the 10 games, the player will therefore be suspended every 5 yellow cards.
“Referring to the practices of other championships, it was decided to develop this rule from the 2025/2026 season. From now on, the rule will consist of an automatic suspension match for five yellow cards without taking into account the ten game period. This new simplified rule was adopted by the LFP board of directors of June 3 and will apply from the 2025/2026 season in Ligue 1 McDonald's, in Ligue 2 BKT, in the French Cup and the Champions Trophy “explains the LFP press release.
