Just 56 kilometers from the finish in Madrid (Spain) Sunday, September 14, the Vuelta, the Tour of Spain cycling, was stopped by Propalestinian demonstrators. No official podium for the Danish winner Jonas Vingegaard: “It is a shame that such a moment of eternity was stolen from us. I was looking forward to celebrating this final victory with my team and the supporters”said the runner.

Shortly before, despite the police, thousands of demonstrators invaded the course with slogans and dams, before facing the police who used tear gas. “We think that Israel commits a genocide. That's why it is crucial for us to invade the streets and call them to stop this genocide”assures a woman.

This 80th edition, started in Italy on August 23, was almost daily disrupted, with two shortened stages. It all started with the presence within this race of the Israel-Prime Tech team. At its head, the Israeli-Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams, close to Benyamin Netanyahu. “Russia has been banished, so why do we have this double standard? Russia has invaded Ukraine, Israel invades Palestine”wonders a woman.

For others, using this third largest cycling tour in the world to express political claims is inappropriate. “Here we have people who have been training for a long time to reach a goal and win the Tour of Spain. This is a sporting event and that should not happen”estimates a resident.

In the country, the Palestinian cause is very popular. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez welcomed this mobilization. The organizers, themselves, denounce unacceptable demonstrations.
