Between Clermont-Ferrand and Ambert (123.7 km), the runners did not leave the Puy-de-Dôme and were not entitled to any respite during the first mountain test this week with the ascents of the Col du Béal (1st category, 10.2 km at 5.6%) and the Col du Chansert (2nd cat., 6.3 km at 5.5%), the latter at 30 km from the finish.
The Frenchwoman Maeva Squiban won the 6th stage of the Tour de France female alone, a little more than a minute her compatriot Juliette Labous, in Ambert in Puy-de-Dôme. Third in the stage, Mauritian Kim Le Court, who won the 5th stage, kept the yellow jersey.
