The first stage of the Tour de France held all its promises and even much more. If the victory was promised to sprinters, the peloton was not satisfied with a conventional procession around Lille, Saturday July 5. A racing movement 17 km from the finish led to the formation of borders which trapped a large part of the favorites of the day, but also those who feed ambitions in the general classification. A group of around thirty runners was won on the Boulevard Vauban and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) largely dominated the sprint in front of Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) and Soren Waerenskjold (UNO-X).
