According to the Madrid daily newspaper, the Portuguese was on board the vehicle with his brother André (26), midfielder of the Penafiel FC, a Portuguese second division club. The drama occurred when Diogo Jota lost control of his car, who left the road before set fire. The two men did not survive.
Recently titled Champion of England with the Reds at the end of the 2024-2025 season, Diogo Jota had also won a second nations league with the Portuguese selection last June against Spain (2-2, TAB 5-3).
Passed by Wolverhampton, where he revealed in the Premier League, he had joined Anfield in September 2020. Before that, he had wore the colors of Ferreira paços and FC Porto, after a lightning pass to Atlético Madrid.
