While the transfer window is in full swing, Barça must for its part manage a surplus of goalkeepers. With the recent arrival of Joan García and the upcoming extension of the SZCZESNY contract, the Catalan club seeks to lighten its workforce, in particular by separating from Ter Stegen or Iñaki Peña. In this context, AS Monaco has demonstrated a concrete interest in the German goalkeeper, hoping to take advantage of his experience to strengthen his team, who will compete in the next Champions League after finishing third in Ligue 1.

However, Ter Stegen's response to this proposal was clear and unambiguously according to Mark : He refuses to leave Barça for the moment. Despite the steps initiated by Monaco, the German wishes to stay within the Catalan club, where he arrived in 2014 and where he was under contract until June 2028. True to his repeated statements since the arrival of Joan García, Ter Stegen intends to defend his place and continue to fight to be the holder of FC Barcelona.

Barça patient to conclude his departure

Internally, Barça leaders are aware of the player's firm position, but they do not completely close the door to an evolution. The market is only just beginning, and it is possible that the German reconsiders its decision as the season is advancing, especially in the perspective of the 2026 World Cup. Indeed, to be selected and hoping to play in international competition, Ter Stegen will need a substantial playing time this season, which could become complicated at Barça, where competition is stronger than ever.

The Blaugrana club is therefore patient and confident, knowing that other offers – both sporting and economical – will not miss for a goalkeeper of this caliber. In addition, the departure of Ter Stegen, although desired to lighten the payroll, would not be catastrophic sportingly. With Joan García and Szczesny, Barça believes it has a sufficient workforce to cover this crucial position.
