After Peyragudes and Luchon-Superbagnères, a new record was exploded on this Tour de France… that of the mythical Mont Ventoux! Indeed, on the occasion of the 16th stage, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates XRG), followed very closely by Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | lease a bike), largely broke the record forThey were Maywhich had climbed the “Mont Chauve” in 55'51 “during the time trial of Dauphiné criterium 2004. But the Slovenian and the Danish did much better than the Spaniard, since they climbed the Ventoux in 54'30 “and 54'32”! The best climbing time was therefore beaten over a minute! Note that Primoz Roglic et Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) also did better than Mayo, in 55'38 “and 55'40”.

The best performance of all time?
In terms of Watts and W/KG, the performance of the Danish and Slovenian is also XXL. Indeed, Jonas Vingegaard would have produced 6.52 W/kg out of 54'32 “, according to our colleagues experts in the matter of Red lantern. Largely taking advantage of the wake of Awesome, Pogacar would have achieved a little less, with a standard estimate of 60 kg, it would have made 6.44 W/kg on 54'30 “.
This is one of the best performance of all time in terms of pure W/kg. Without doubt the best performance on such a long effort, of an equivalent or even higher level to the ascent of the Madeleine pass by Jan Ullrich in 1998 (6.47 W/kg on 52'44 “) or that of Montecompione plan of Marco Pantani in 1998 (6.49 w/kg Sur 49'44 “).
However, this performance remains to be put into perspective, since the conditions of the day were excellent, with a hill race (only one ascent on the program), that of Mont Ventoux and a relatively easy step for men of the peloton before the climb of “Mont Chauve”. On the other hand, the level reached last year on the Beille plateau, with the best performance in the story achieved by Tadej Pogacarwith 6.98 W/kg on 39'50 “, has not yet been reached on this Tour.
