To conclude the second week of Tour de Francethe 15th stage of this Sunday, July 20 promises to be a perfect ground for escaped. Between Muret and Carcassonne, the runners will have to travel 169.3 km on an accident but non -mountainous course, accumulating almost 2,500 meters of elevation. Three ribs are listed in the last 100 kilometers, including the formidable climb to the Sant Pas (2.9 km at 10.2 %), a strategic point to make the difference before the arrival in a switch.

A perfect course for backpackers
Everything suggests that the pure sprinters will be dismissed and that the general's men will remain behind, which opens the door to steps hunters wide. If a solid group of climbers-pucker isolates itself, it could well go to the end, especially if the general's favorites lift their foot. The selection could be made in the rise of Sorèze, but especially in the terrible step of the Sant, whose two -digit percentages are capable of skimping any group. Then, there will remain a long winding descent, before an arrival in a false dish rising in Carcassonne: the winner will have to be as skilful descender as explosive.
If it is difficult to identify a favorite for such courses and scenarios, we can cite some names like Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike), Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-DECEUNINCK), Quinn Simmons (Lidl-trek), Axel Laurance (INEOS Grenadiers), Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ)…
