A few days before the big departure, the organizers of Tour de France have unveiled the official regulations of the 2025 edition. Several notable adjustments refine the race dynamics. Among the main innovations, the 3 -kilometer rule, intended to protect runners in the event of a fall or technical incident, will now be applied only in the event of a collective fall. Certain stages, deemed too difficult or with an arrival at the top (stages 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 18 and 19), just like the time trial (stages 5 and 13), will not benefit at all.

No bonus sprint, special rule on the 21st stage …

Another notable change: management of elimination times. The scales were hardened for the steps deemed easy (coefficient 1 to 3), with higher reference speeds and reduced margins. Conversely, the most mountainous steps will offer a little more flexibility. The dishes' time trial, they will see their margin of time lowered from 33 to 25 %. The last step, which will be concluded exceptionally with a passage on the slopes of Montmartre, retains a specificity: in case of rain or slippery surface, times in the general classification can be frozen from the first pass on the line, before the circuit towers.

The scale of the point classification remains generally unchanged but will always depend on the coefficient of the stage. As in 2024, only the highest collar – the Col de la Loze (Step 18) – will distribute double points for the mountain ranking. Finally, the bonuses will remain confined to the finish lines, so no bonus sprints.
