A new feat. Félix Lebrun, 7th player in the world, got rid of the Chinese Lin Shidong (N°2) this Sunday after a superb semi-final won in six sets: 11-6, 11-6, 11-9, 6-11, 7-11, 11-5. This is the first time that a Frenchman has qualified for the final of a Grand Smash, the equivalent of a Grand Slam tournament in tennis.
He had not faced Lin Shidong for almost a year, in the semi-final of the WTT Champions in Montpellier. At the time, Félix Lebrun easily beat him 4 sets to 0 before winning in the final to become the first Frenchman to win a Champions, a sort of Masters 1000 in tennis.
Félix Lebrun, who won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games, will therefore have the opportunity to enrich his record with a new, very good line. The final will pit the French table tennis player against world number 1 Wang Chuqin, who defeated his Chinese compatriot Xiang Peng in 7 rounds.
