“This night, the truck of our mechanics was robbed and several bikes were stolen”. A few hours after Jonas Vingegaard's victory over the 2nd stage of the Vuelta, at Limone Piemonte (in Italy), the Visma-Lease team in Bike was entitled to two bad news. In addition to the abandonment of the French Axel Zingle, who fell, the Dutch training experienced the same mishap as the Cofidis team on the Tour de France, being shirked several frames.
The incident occurred near the hotel where the team spent the night not far from Turin. The Movistar and the Lidl-Trek also present in this hotel has not undergone any loss. Before the third stage on Monday, Richard Plugge, the boss of the Visma-Lease A Bike team, confirmed that part of the bikes had been found in bushes.
“It's a good thing for us, but I don't know why they were abandoned”he said in words reported by the Dutch media Wielerflits (link in Dutch). The latter also explains that the bikes of Jonas Vingegaard had not been stolen. An investigation was opened by Italian police to identify the burglars.
