Cristiano Ronaldo boasts the Saudi Pro League, but a former member of his staff puts his words in perspective.
As a good ambassador of the Saudi Pro League, Cristiano Ronaldo has never hidden his admiration for this championship which he regularly places in the world top 5. During the Globe Soccer Awards 2024, the Portuguese went further by saying that the Saudi Pro League clearly surpassed the French Ligue 1. The Al-Nassr striker notably underlined the overwhelming domination of PSG in France and praised the extreme conditions in which players evolve in Saudi Arabia.
“To be honest, I think the Saudi championship is not worse than the French championship. In France, there are two-three teams with a good level. Not in Saudi Pro League, it is more competitive (than Ligue 1) ”he announced last December. These words quickly sparked strong reactions in the world of football.
More recently, Paolo Rongoni, former physical trainer from Al-Nassr in the 2022-2023 season, brought a more nuanced look at the issue, temperating the euphoria around the Saudi Pro League. “It is above all a climate question”first explains Rongoni to Provence.
Al-Nassr in Ligue 1, what is it worth?
“It also depends on the team in which you play. Al-Nassr could have been a good team from the French championship. We would not have finished in the first three, but we could have qualified for Europe. Al-Nassr was and is the same kind of team as Al-Hilal who typed Manchester City at the last club World Cup ”he adds. The controversy does not stop there.
Riyad Mahrez, another player playing in the Gulf,
Lately answered Ronaldo. ” No. I think the five major European championships are one step ahead ”launched the Algerian international.
“It is only after we can start competing with others, we are not so far”he insists.
