Real Madrid hoped to finish a disappointing 2024-25 season by winning the Club World Cup, but this was not the case.
The team was eliminated from the competition by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week, during a match where the players of Xabi Alonso did not manage to counter the European Champions.
This match, and the tournament as a whole, were particularly difficult for Raúl Asencio. The 22-year-old has played three games in the United States, and he made a serious mistake each time. He conceded a penalty during the draw against Al Hilal, was expelled against Pachuca and offered a goal to PSG during the defeat in the semi-finals.
Asencio's mistakes have aroused criticism, including from his own teammates, and he now recognized that he had not been up to the club World Cup, in a declaration published on social networks (via Cadena Ser).

Asencio will have trouble next season
ASENCIO entered the Real Madrid first team during last season and, on the whole, he achieved good performances in La Liga and in the Champions League. Supporters were delighted to see him have his chance, but he could find it difficult to get regular opportunities during the 2025-26 season.
He will have Dean Huijsen, Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao before him in the hierarchy, and he will also compete with David Alaba. His chances could therefore be limited.
