Neymar has just broken a record for several years, so far held by Zidane.
Neymar broke a historic record of Zidane and reigns longer than ever as a dearest transfer in world football. Since his incredible passage from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017, the Brazilian has an unprecedented longevity record, barely exceeding the former French icon Zinedine Zidane.
Neymar's transferset at 222 million euros, had caused a sensation by almost doubling the previous record, owned by Paul Pogba (105 million euros in 2016). This colossal amount had then revolutionized the transfer market, establishing a new standard in the history of football.
Almost eight years after this historic transfer, the Auriverde striker now exceeds Zidane in terms of past duration as the most expensive player in the world. According to Transfermarkt, the Brazilian owned this title for 7 years, 11 months and 28 days, against 7 years, 11 months and 27 days for French, whose transfer to Real Madrid in 2001 was then valued at 77.8 million euros.
A record that goes beyond the greatest legends
It is no longer just the most expensive transfer, but also the longest financial supremacy in world football. To give an idea of the magnitude of this record, other large stars like Cristiano Ronaldo (4 years, 1 month and 26), Maradona (4 years old) or Gareth Bale (2 years, 11 months and 8 days) have never held this status for so long.
