Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé is about to take over the famous number 10, while the club is preparing for the 2025-26 season.

After his first year in the Spanish capital, the 26 -year -old seems ready to trade his current number 9, previously carried by players like Karim Benzema, against the number left by the club legend, Luka Modric, according to Marca.

Mbappé could inherit Modric's number 10

Under the number 9 jersey, the Frenchman has made a first season worthy of the name, scoring 44 goals in all competitions. His explosive performances have earned him the Pichichi Trophy for the top scorer in the Liga and the European gold shoe, thus consolidating his immediate impact on Spanish football.

Mbappé carried the number 9 last season

With the departure of Modric du Real Madrid for AC Milan, the legendary Croatian playmaker left behind him much more than memories: he also left his jersey number 10 for sale. For Mbappé, who has long brought this issue as a French team and at its beginnings to AS Monaco, the opportunity to recover it in a club is important.

From a marketing point of view, this decision is a winner for Real Madrid. Last season, the club sold hundreds of thousands of jerseys on number 9 on the back. Today, with the possibility of reintroducing French with number 10, Real Madrid is ready to revive its sales of derivative products. The club considers this transition not only as a football formality, but also as a strategic opportunity to strengthen the international notoriety of Mbappé.

Currently on the after-season break after a trying season, Mbappé is expected to resume training on August 4. The first official match is scheduled for August 19 against Osasuna in La Liga at Santiago Bernabéu.
