It was in an emotionally busy context that the Reds found the grounds this Sunday. 10 days after the sudden and brutal disappearance of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a road accident, Liverpool beat Preston (3-1) in terms of his first preparation match. A meeting preceded by a minute of silence, obviously, in memory of the Portuguese striker. A Preston player had also come to lay a wreath at the foot of the Liverpool fans' rostrum before kick -off, while the traditional song «You’ll Never Walk Alone» had a particular perfume in the stands with regard to the context.
In the 20th minute (in reference to the Diogo Jota jersey number), the supporters of the two teams also respected a minute of applause. It was only thirteen minutes later that Conor Bradley came to open the scoring for Liverpool (0-1, 33rd). Darwin Nunez came to drive the nail on the highlight eight after his entry into play (0-2, 53rd), and dedicated his goal to Jota by reproducing the famous celebration of the Portuguese mimicking a video game game. Lindsay reduced the gap for the premises at the end of the match (1-2, 83rd), but Cody Gakpo finally assured his victory for his own shortly after (1-3, 88th). The Reds will now face AC Milan on July 26 for their next match.
