Ligue 1, via Nicolas de Tavernost, opens the door to a possible dialogue with Canal+ and a possible return of the encrypted chain in the distribution of Ligue 1+.
The time is for reconciliation. Since the withdrawal of Canal+ negotiations for the distribution of the new platform launched by the LFP, relations between the two parties were in a standstill. This disagreement had led to a major reorganization of the TV rights in the championship, with the arrival of Ligue 1+ and beIN Sports as main broadcasters.
The end of June, which was to formalize an agreement between LFP Média, BeIN Sports and Canal+, had not finally succeeded. Maxime Saada, boss of Canal+, had justified this withdrawal by evoking “Conditions not met for Canal+ to distribute the new Ligue 1 platform”. Faced with this situation, the LFP had to rely more on its other partners to ensure the distribution of its new platform.
This Friday, Nicolas de Tavernost, managing director of LFP Média, revived the hope of a return from Canal+ in the broadcast of Ligue 1. “The question is more to ask Canal+ than to us. I have always said that we are open to discussions with Canal+ if they wish ”he said during a press point, taken up by RMC.
“We don't want a controversy”
According to him, “It is the interest of Canal+ and its subscribers, even its shareholders, to reach a distribution commission and satisfy its subscribers”. He said the door remained open, but that “The ball is in the Canal+ camp and not in ours”. “We don't want controversy with Canal+. We hope that Canal+, which was a football partner, becomes a football partner again. There is no reason why Ligue 1+ will not be distributed by all platforms ”adds the manager.
In the meantime, the LFP and Ligue 1+ are preparing their big launch, scheduled for next Friday. At the opening of the 2025-2026 season, Rennes will receive OM at Roazhon Park. The league hopes to attract a large audience,
Despite competition from a free match broadcast by Canal+ the same eveningbetween Liverpool and Bournemouth, for the resumption of the Premier League.
