Ligue 1: The automatic suspensions rule … now, a player will no longer be suspended after 3 yellows in 10 games. We explain the new rule to you.
This is an important change for players and coaches of Ligue 1. from the 2025-2026 season, the automatic suspension system will be changed, as announced by the LFP this Friday in an official press release.
So far, a player or a coach had been suspended for a match after having received three yellow cards over a period of ten games. From now on, this rule is simplified: the suspension will fall after five warnings, without time limit.
This reform, inspired by other major European championships, aims to make discipline more coherent and to “improve the product” in the words of the League.
