Real Madrid begins its preparations for the 2025-26 season, which will start in just over two weeks.

Four new recruits have joined the Xabi Alonso team, and although they all received a number (except Franco Mastantuono, who has not yet arrived), it was the current players who have changed.

Last week, it was announced that Real Madrid had decided to change the jersey number of Kylian Mbappé. The French international had taken the number 9 when he arrived from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the idea is now to assign him the emblematic number 10, which has become available after the departure of Luka Modric.

Real Madrid has decided to change the Kylian Mbappé jersey number

Mbappé hinted this possibility a few days later, and today, Real formalized the fact that Mbappé is its new number 10, according to Marca. However, he is not the only player of the first team to change the number, Raul Asencio who also made an exchange.

Lucas Vázquez number 17 remained vacant after departure after the club World Cup, and according to Marca, it was recovered by Asencio. The 22-year-old, who wore the number 35 in his breakthrough season in 2024-25, is now registered with a first team number, which confirms that Alonon is counting on him for the coming season.

Two numbers are still vacant in Real Madrid

The passage of Mbappé from 9 to 10 means that this last issue is always available, as is number 25. Currently, Gonzalo Garcia and Mastanuono are the only two players who should be part of the first team next season and who have not yet received a jersey from the first team.

It remains to be seen if there will be other changes, especially with regard to the new number. Endrick and Gonzalo are candidates to recover it, but one of them may leave Real Madrid before the end of the summer.
