After a day of rest, the runners rolled thoroughly on Tuesday September 2, between the animal park of Sendaviva and Larra Belagua (175.3 kilometers), in the Pyrenees, on the border with France. It was ultimately the Australian Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) who pulled out of the game to afford a second stage victory on this Vuelta, the fourth of his career on the Tour of Spain. His team made a double blow by forcing Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease A Bike) to recover the red jersey while the Dutch team did not really want to avoid post-stage solicitations.
The day is finally perfect for the Emirati team, despite its internal torments, with a Juan Ayuso in conflict with his managers because the latter did not appreciate that his departure after the season was announced during the Vuelta. The young Spaniard finally put himself at the service of his leader Joao Almeida to impose a big rhythm in the final ascent, of first category, and to crack the Red Jersey Torstein Traeen (Bahrain-Victorious). They failed to make Jonas Vingegaard crack, but their acceleration at least forced him to follow them, and to recover the head of the general classification.
During this time, at the front, Jay Vine had managed to slip into a large group of 30 runners who had taken off 68 kilometers from the finish. Fear with his best climber blue polka dot jersey, the Australian observed the few attacks from his escape companions but responded rather easily to pass the finish line by raising his arms.
