Announced on departure this summer, Andreas Christensen may well go after his contract with FC Barcelona.

Andreas Christensen, central defender of FC Barcelona aged 29, could leave the club this summer despite a contract running until 2026. Mined by injuries during the last season, the player interests certain clubs of Saudi Arabia, although no concrete offer has yet been formulated, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Recruited for free from Chelsea originally, its sale would represent a net profit for Barça, which explains the opening of the Catalan club to a possible departure, especially since that would reduce the payroll.

Flick appreciates the qualities of Christensen

However, Christensen does not seem in a hurry to leave. He could choose to honor his contract to the end in order to leave freely in 2026. This strategy includes a risk for him, because the coming season is crucial for the World Cup. From a sporting point of view, coach Hansi Flick currently has five options in central defense (Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, Eric Garcia, Araujo and Christensen).

Eric Garcia, in particular, offers a certain versatility, which could play against the Danish. Flick nevertheless appreciates the technical qualities of Christensen, but his physical weaknesses still arouse questions. The situation should clarify in the coming weeks, while the club will resume training on July 14.
