Frenchman David Lappartient was re-elected for a third consecutive four-year term at the head of the International Cycling Union (UCI), he announced Thursday on X. “I am happy to have been re -elected president of the UCI for a third term! I am grateful to you about your confidence and happy to be able to continue to promote cycling worldwide “wrote the 52 -year -old leader, on the sidelines of the cycling Worlds which take place in Rwanda.
No other candidate had presented himself against him. “By virtue of article 40 paragraph 3 of the statutes of the UCI, its election for a third term of four years will be confirmed without a vote”the body announced in a statement on July 4. David Lappartient, president of the Morbihan Departmental Council (West), was also chairman of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) from June 2023 to June 2025, officiating during the Paris 2024 Olympics. He was beaten in March for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (CIO) by Zimbabwean Kirsty Coventry.
