Four runners decide to animate the race and quickly form the breakaway of step 5: Jensen Plowright (Alpecin-DECEUNINCK), Martin Svrček (Soudal Quick-Step), Patrick Gamper (Team Jayco AlUla) et Huub Artz (Intermarché-Wanty). 30 km from the finish, their advance on the peloton, led by the Visma | Lease a Bikeis only 1'30 “, leaving the uncertainty over their chances of competing for the victory.
