A 6th and last step full of suspense, emotion … and rain on this Tour of Britain ! Besides farewell and tributes to Welsh legend Geraint Thomas On his lands between Newport and Cardiff, everything remained to be done this Sunday for the final victory. Romain Grégoire (Groupama-fdj) having only 2 “margin on his dolphin Remco Evenepoel (Sudal Quick-Step) and not much more about the rest of his pursuers, the Frenchman had a lot to do to keep his Leader green tunic on this explosive course of only 112.2 km. Contested in difficult and rainy conditions, the race has logically played in the justice of the peace of the day, the bump of Caerphilly Mountain (1.3km at 9.6%) 10 terminals from the finish. In control, Grégoire perfectly managed to manage the attacks of his rivals to be crowned king of Great Britain after a breathless final … with the unexpected victory ofOlav Kooij (Visma | lease a bike) in a sprint in a small committee!

The summary of this suspense and surprising final
With such a bump in the final, we would not have imagined the best sprinter of this 21st edition to win this 6th stage and thus afford a third bouquet this week! It must be said that the scenario was more than stunning in the last 10 kilometers. Because despite several attacks in the final bump, the favorites only returned a few seconds from the escapes of the day, with a trio made up of Bastien Tronchon (Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale), Fred Wright (Bahrain – Victorious) et Julius Johansen (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) who then took advantage of the descent to resume a little margin and spin towards the win. An ideal scenario for Romain Grégoirethus depriving his opponents of possible bonifications.
But that was without counting on the return of a certain number of runners within the favorite group, a regrouping which condemned the top trio. A little more supplied, the peloton was then able to organize to return. Alros that we thought they were going to go to the end, the three of the lead looked at a little too much in the last hectometers, waiting for the head of the peloton to base them to launch their sprint. Too late, since the wearer of the red jersey then arose from the pack to overcome them, Kooij winning in front Sam Watson (grenadier ineos) … and the unfortunate Fred Wrightwho may have regrets to have passed so close.
13th on the line, Grégoire was therefore able to raise their arms to celebrate this victory as a general after a final conducted to succeed Stephen Williams at the charts. This step will ultimately have not changed anything to the general, and the French therefore won ahead Evenepoel et Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor). At the foot of the podium, we find Oscar Onley (Team picnic postnl) and a third tricolor runner in this top 5, Aurélien Paret-Peintre (Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale).
