The news was confirmed on Saturday morning by the runner herself on Instagramwhere she explained that she had already been operated on. “I am super disappointed to have fractured the femur in training Thursday (Ouch), but the operation went very well and I already count the days before being able to go back on the bike”she wrote. This injury puts an end brutal to a season yet marked by a return in force. After an iliac artery operation at the start of the year, Gigante had distinguished himself with two stage victories and a third place to the general of Giro d’Italia Womenbefore finishing sixth in the Tour de France women with zwift. Describing herself with humor as “Sarah 3.0”she had seemed to find all her potential.
“I was looking forward to being able to represent Australia on a hilly course at the Kigali Worlds and end my season in Italy”she added. “But at least, the four races that I played this year were all magnificent. And I know I'm good at comebacks!” Despite the disappointment, the 24 -year -old runner keeps her usual optimism and claims to want to focus on rest, recovery and mental resilience. She also wanted to thank her relatives and her team for their support, notably mentioning her friend Monty who stayed more than two hours by his side by the road after his fall.
