“I don't even know exactly who is starting …”
You seem tired. What state of mind are you on the eve of the race?
I am tired, yes, but as I have already said, one of the main reasons why I am here, it is because I like people, I like the region. So why not? I want to try my luck tomorrow, to give the best of myself, and we will see what it gives.
Do you still feel the need to prove something?
No way. In the end, it is up to us to decide what it means “to give everything”, what a victory, a second or a 10th place represents, or even simply finish the race. I feel free compared to that, I have nothing to prove to anyone. I came here because I like the atmosphere, I like the public, the support. It should be a difficult race, but also pleasant. We will see what we can do with the team.
Do you appreciate the last climb of the course?
Oh yes, even if the last is always one too much! But I know her well, it's a traditional climb here. In reality, I know almost all the ascents of the region by dint of running there for years. It's typical: it is not a very long race, but it never disappoints. And even if there are only a few hundred very steep meters, it is a real challenge to be taken.
Who do you think are the favorites for tomorrow?
Honestly, I don't even know exactly who is starting. I saw a few guys today during the presentation of the teams, some come from the Tour de France. It is certain that they will have the level and the legs, but also rest now. On our side too, the guys come back from internships at altitude, they are preparing for the Vuelta. It will be a crazy race, it is certain, from the start.
