After long negotiations, while Canal+ wanted to become the great partner of Ligue 1, the LFP announced the launch of its channel, at 14.99 euros per month, without any agreement with Canal.
A new era started for Ligue 1 this Tuesday, July 1. The LFP board of directors voted in favor of the launch of its own platform to broadcast the French championship. Just before that, Nicolas de Tavernost, the director general of the commercial company LFP Media, presented his project of channels of Ligue 1 to club presidents. The adventure will be without the help of Canal+.
As a reminder, after Dazn's withdrawal at the end of a single season, the LFP was delighted to be able to discuss with Maxime Saada, the president of the Canal+group, interested in participating in the production and distribution of the future chain of the Ligue 1. However, the failure is total. In long negotiations, both parties had far too large disagreements and ended the discussions last week.
To become the privileged partner of the championship again, Canal+ agreed to pay a guaranteed minimum of 100 million euros in order to manage the distribution of the channel (which would therefore have become an option in its service) while co-playing the poster on Sunday evening in the wake of the Canal Football Club. The LFP hoped for 200 million euros of guaranteed minimum. Too much for Maxime Saada visibly.
Canal+ out of the time
As indicated The teamthe future league channel, which will be unveiled on July 10 during a press conference, will be marketed by the LFP itself without exclusivity with all distributors on the market (Internet boxes, connected TVs, video game consoles). Nothing says that Canal+ will offer the channels of the L1
In its offer … The League will take care of the production of internal meetings with the help of a company which it will choose on Friday.
The LFP had already leaked the price of the subscription around 15 euros. The championship channel will be offered at 14.99 euros per month with commitment, with an offer at 10 euros for those under 26. Basically, if the future platform dedicated to Ligue 1 reaches one million subscribers during the next season, it will bring 150 million euros to clubs. It would be a feat. Dazn, who had broken his prices as the end of the season approached, had finished at less than 700,000 subscribers …
