Bordeaux thought he was holding his Savior with Oliver Kahn, but the former goalkeeper of Bayern withdrew in front of an overly dark and uncertain reality.
Oliver Kahn will not be the so hoped for the Girondins de Bordeaux. The former emblematic goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, who had studied in depth the resumption of the club for several months, finally gave up in the face of the complexity of the file. In an interview with Beyond Business Cast, he details the reasons for this withdrawal, evoking a lack of guarantees and an environment deemed too uncertain.
The initial objective of the former Bavarian leader was clear: bringing the FCGB back to the first division. “It was not to passively make investments, but to be actively involved, with all the experience of our network”he explains. But very quickly, administrative and judicial obstacles slowed down its ambitions. “It is a bankruptcy procedure … We do not have all the data 100 %. There was a point where we did not have total security ”recognizes Kahn.
“It would have been great”
The most blocking point remained the risk of sports demotion imposed by the instances, even in the event of validated buyout.
“If you buy a French club in this process, the federation may agree, but you still have to come back from a division … or even more. The fifth, the sixth. There, you need ten or twelve years, and that is not possible ”he believes. A major brake for any investor, despite a business plan already tied up.
Resigned, the German therefore preferred to give up. “It would have been great … But in the end, you have to make a rational decision. We had many negotiations with the owner Gérard Lopez, but we could not agree ”he concludes, lucid but disappointed.
Meanwhile, the Girondins continue their reconstruction. The Bordeaux Commercial Court recently approved the club's continuation plan, ending a year of receivership.
Authorized to evolve in National 2the FCGB escapes the liquidation, but remains under close surveillance of the Federal DNCG, in particular on the supervision of its payroll.
