“It was a long time …”
Winner of the 10th stage, Simon Yates exploited what his racing years have provided him: “To be honest, it is a bit of the victory of the experience. It was a difficult start to be in the breakaway. Many strong guys. This is why I took the advantage in the last turns, at the end of the descent, before the start of the climb, because I wanted to have a good start. I did my best. It's been a long time since my last victory on the Tour, I did not expect to have opportunities.”
Nevertheless, the Briton is well aware of his role within the collective Visma | Lease a Bikehe who is there to support Jonas Vingegaard : “Of course, we are focused on Jonas and on the general classification. The stage went well. I took the opportunity of both hands. From the start I am aware that it is everything for Jonas Vingegaard, I have no illusion. Even today, the plan was to be in the breakaway in case something happened behind, but the gap was too big so I fell in and I was still tired. Progressing every day.
