After Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid, it's Chelsea's turn to enter the club World Cup for a fairly balanced match against Los Angeles FC in Giroud and Lloris. Within the sublime Mercedes-Benz Stadium of Atlanta, the Blues, with Neto, Palmer, Madueke and Jackson challenged the Californian club with in particular Lloris and Bouanga lined up. Nkunku, Giroud, Gusto, Andrey Santos and Sarr started on the bench.
And unsurprisingly, Chelsea was quietly set in the opposing camp, but without really being dangerous. The first offensive came from the left with a breakthrough from Madueke, who rose to Lloris (18th). The game then accelerated and the Londoners were more dangerous until the opening of the scoring on a beautiful Neto action, which erased Hollingshead in the surface of a hook before finding the small interior net (1-0, 34th).
Los Angeles can have regrets
Upon returning from the locker room, the blues attacked with the same intensity as in the end of the first period, but lacked the difference, like a Jackson's head (49th). But Chelsea was not really safe and Lafc, with Giroud since half, had some opportunities, which Bouanga could not convert (55th and 66th). And by dint of dominating, Chelsea managed to take the break thanks to a good action between Palmer, the new recruit Delap and Enzo Fernández at the conclusion (2-0, 80th).
Enough to end the suspense, because the LAFC failed to return to the last moments and offered the Londoners a quiet match, before a last strike from Neto on the transversal (90th+5). Chelsea therefore begins her club World Cup campaign in a beautiful way and stands at the top of the group D before facing the Brazilians of Flamengo on the second day. For his part, Los Angeles will have to do better against the Hope of Tunis.
