The African Football Confederation (CAF) has published An official press release on its site In order to announce that the CAF opens an investigation concerning the women's selection of Algeria. “The CAF launched the procedure of an investigation against the national women's selection of Algeria for alleged facts of” violation of the statutes and regulations “of the CAF, within the framework of the African Cup of Nations Totalnergies which currently takes place in Morocco.” CAF also said that it “Will not make any other comments on this case as long as the procedure has not been completed.”
This follows in particular the controversies around Morocco's censorship by Algeria. The FAF had used an unofficial logo of the competition masking the mention “Morocco” on its visuals published on social networks while Algerian television had also masked the “Royal Air Morocco” sponsor on panels at a press conference. Recently, images had also circulated where you could see black tape on the benches masking the logo of the Moroccan Federation. On the field side, so far, the Algerian female selection is doing quite well: 1-0 victory against Botswana on the first day and draw (0-0) against Tunisia. For the moment, Morocco (group A), Nigeria (group B that of Algeria) and South Africa (Group C) are the respective leaders of their groups. Algeria will face Nigeria this Sunday, July 13 in Casablanca.
