The Spanish defender Yeray Álvarez (30 years old) has just announced that he had been tested positive for doping control after the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United. The player, who had testicle cancer in 2016, said that this positive result would be due to taking his medicine against hair loss.
“A few weeks ago, I learned that I was checked positive during a UEFA doping test after the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United. The news was a real shock and I couldn't believe it, because I have never taken substances forbidden in my life. Since I have overcome my illness, I have been a treatment for alopecia for years and, after studying the case, we have established that I was controlled positive because I involuntarily took a drug against hair loss containing a prohibited substance. The disciplinary procedure being under investigation and subject to confidentiality, I am temporarily suspended and I am not allowed to make other public declarations. I want to tell you all that I very much regret this situation but, with the support of the club, I work in my defense in the hope of being able to return to the field as quickly as possible. Once the process is finished, I will give all the necessary explanations. I would like to thank the Athletic Club for its support and support from the first moment and to express my confidence in justice and sports institutions ”said the player on his social networks.
