One of the great talents of European football announced on Monday that he ended his professional career, leaving an impressive track record behind.

Ivan Rakitic decided to turn the page on his career at 37. The Croatian midfielder announced on Monday that he hung up the crampons, after a disputed season in the colors of the Hajduk Split (Croatian D1).

With a rich and marked journey of success, the native of Möhlin will have crisscrossed Europe and beyond during his twenty-one years spent on the green rectangle. He evolved at FC Basel (2005-07), at Schalke 04 (2007-11), FC Seville (2011-14 and 2020-24), FC Barcelona (2014-20) and Al-Shabab (2024), before closing the loop on his natal lands.

Among the 16 major trophies he won, Rakitic has two Europa leagues (2014, 2023) with the Andalusian club during his two passages. He experienced the peak of his career under the Blaugranas colors, winning four Liga (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) and appearing among the key players in the fifth coronation of Barça in the Champions League in 2015.

With his national team, the former Sevillistas player was also one of the pillars of this generation, like Luka Modric or Mario Mandzukic. Together, they managed to drive the Vatreni to the World Cup final for the first time in their history in 2018.
