
The emblematic guardian of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Peter Rufai died this Thursday, June 3, 2025 at the age of 61.
Nigeria cries one of its national heroes. The former goalkeeper Peter Rufai made the soul this Thursdayafter a long illness that has removed him from the spotlight in recent years. Nicknamed «Monana Mayana»he will remain in memories as One of the greatest Nigerian goalkeeperswith 65 selections in the national team.
Rufai notably participated in Two World Cup editions (1994 and 1998). He was the keeper of the Nigeria team during his Historical coronation at the African Cup of Nations in 1994. He has evolved in several European clubs, notably KSC Lokeren, KSK Beveren (Belgium), Go Ahead Eagles (The Netherlands), Gil Vicente, SC Farense (Portugal), HERULES ALICANTE et Deportivo La Corogne (Spain).
Peter Rufai was appreciated for his charisma and his role as a pioneer, being one of the first African guards to win in Europe. His death arouses great emotion in the world of African and Nigerian football, where he is considered a legend.
