Despite the French football crisis, Olympique de Marseille continues to feed the transfer market.

It is the end of a long soap, the outcome of which was as expected as painful: Chancel Mbemba is no longer a player of theOlympique de Marseille.

Relegated to the unwanted “loft” for a year, the Congolese defender spent this 2024-25 in the closet after having failed to find a club that would allow him to have playing time to continue his career.

Chancel Mbemba and OM, it's over.

A career that will now write far from Marseille since the Mbemba contract ended on June 30. The former FC Porto player is therefore officially free to engage with the stable of his choice since Monday.

Mbemba, a darling of the velodrome

This Mbemba soap opera has long been debated in the OM environment. Much appreciated by a majority of supporters for his excellent performance in previous seasons, the Congolese did not enter the plans of Roberto de Zerbi. He acted his departure and wanted to send a strong message on social networks.

« All stories find their conclusion, and sometimes it is not the one we imagined. These three seasons with Olympique de Marseille will remain engraved in my memory and I will remember the best: the electrifying atmosphere of the velodrome, exceptional supporters and a city that vibrates at the rate of matches“, Wrote Chancel Mbemba, before having a word for Pablo Longoria. I would like to thank the president who offered me the opportunity to join this great adventure, as well as the entire staff, staff of the Commandery and my teammates with whom I shared these years rich in emotion. A particular thank you to all those who have supported and encouraged me during this last difficult season: to supporters crossed in the street, always ready to share a word of encouragement, and to the Congolese people whose unwavering support carried me in difficult moments (…) Thank you for everything, Marseille Bébé ! ».
