If Medhi Benatia has been unanimous since his arrival at OM, it is difficult not to see his casting errors of the last winter transfer window…

Since his arrival at the head of OM sports management, Medhi Benatia quickly agreed. Charismatic, ambitious and very involved, the former Moroccan international has attracted supporters and observers thanks to a clear discourse and a rigorous approach to the transfer window. Upon his arrival, Benatia's mission was to rebuild a competitive workforce, capable of restoring colors to a club in full reconstruction. And his first steps had let glimpse of great promises, like his hard work behind the scenes and his proximity to the players.

A winter transfer window that leaves traces

But despite a convincing beginning, Benatia has just experienced her first stopping. During the last winter transfer window, three of his four recruits clearly disappointed. Luiz Felipe, supposed to stabilize the defense, only played four games before terminating his contract. Amar dedic, also expected as a reliable solution on the right flank, never convinced and left the club as fast as he had arrived. As for Ismaël Bennacer, recruited with great fanfare, he did not meet expectations and OM is already trying to renegotiate his option to lower. Only Amine Gouiri, author of solid services, saves the results of this winter transfer window.

Benatia expected at the turn this summer

These first failures remind Benatia that the reality on the ground is often ruthless, even for the best profiles. This summer, the OM sports director will have to correct the shot and prove that he can learn from his mistakes. With the total support of Roberto de Zerbi, the former central defender will have a new card to play to strengthen the Marseille workforce. But in Marseille, the right to make mistakes is limited. And Benatia knows it better than anyone.
