The French pair made up of Florian Bourrassaud and Esteban Dorr is forced to declare for the semi-finals of the double world championships in Doha that she was to compete this Saturday. The cause? Esteban Dorr's left knee injury. The French are still assured of leaving with a bronze medal, which they will receive on Sunday.
They certainly did not want to stop there but the left knee of Esteban Dorr decided otherwise. Qualified this Thursday for the semi-finals of the Table Tennis Worlds, the French pair made up of Florian Bourrassaud and Esteban Dorr ensures the first world medal for the tricolor clan, a first since 1997. An authentic feat that the two young French people wanted to concretize.
But Esteban Dorr injured in the left knee on Thursday evening, during the celebration of the duo. Drunk with happiness and carried away by joy, the latter knelt before his partner. A not so harmless gesture since he had to leave the ground supported by two members of his staff. This Friday, the French Table Tennis Federation announced the package of the two players.
“Esteban had mentioned him at the end of the quarter -final, he suffers from a knee injury and is no longer able to continue the competition. This package therefore comes to put an end to the journey of our double which will receive his bronze medal this Sunday,” wrote Let FFTT on its site.
Alexis and Félix Lebrun to a metal brighter than bronze?
Perfect imitators of Bourrassaud-Dorr, the Lebrun brothers raised, too, in the semi-finals of the Table Tennis Worlds, this Friday, after having ended the Swedish Falck-Karlsson.
The Montpellier duo will therefore go up for the first time on a world podium, one year after their bronze by men's teams at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. In the semi-finals, they will challenge the Taïpeian, Lin and Kao pair and can hope, in the event of a victory, a metal brillie than bronze.
“Alexis and Félix are still in the race to go and get a medal from another metal following their victory earlier during the day. They will play their semi-final tomorrow against the Taïpical pair,” said the FFTT.
